Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
I think there is a certain amount of misinterpretation, some of it wilful. The new code states
"You can ride two abreast and it can be safer to do so, particularly in larger groups or when accompanying children or less experienced riders. Be aware of drivers behind you and allow them to overtake (for example, by moving into single file or stopping) when you feel it is safe to let them do so."

So cyclists are not advised to ride two abreast, but now may do so where it could be safer, but when faster vehicles approach from behind should allow safe overtaking.bu e.g. reverting to single file.

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
I sometimes cycle and I can see the sense in riding in the road ‘proper’ in traffic where it’s no faster than the bike- especially when needing to turn right- as it’s probably going to stop a few accidents but in reality traffic is always faster or it’s stopped so it’s just not going to be practical. And lots of cyclists will now just take the piss more than they do already.

Let them go on motorways within six months they're won't be any cyclists left to worry about

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
Cyclists also encouraged to cycle two abreast in the middle of the road.

I have a bike btw, can see all the Boris bike twats taking the piss, they're already gloating on twatter, as said will end in tears and plenty of soiled lycra.

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
As I said, it's not just car drivers that dislike your lycra mob, wd40.

Lorries drivers dislike them.
Most motorcyclists I know dislike them.
Horse riders dislike them.
Your casual cyclist pretty much dislikes them.

If you wear lycra and cycle in a group whilst perving over your mates arse, then I can pretty much everyone who is in the road with you wishes you weren't there.

This new rule will only bring on more accidents, I reckon. But at least it'll make a few out there feel all smug about themselves as they selfishly take up more of the road.

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
Bit stupid really as the cyclists will be approaching bends on windy roads often with farm machinery on them thinking they have rights to be there. I’ve seen plenty of incidents where being on the sides of the road has prevented them being wiped out as much of this stuff can’t fit on one side of the road.

But still, it’s down to jealousy apparently….

Cyclists should pay road tax, only fair.

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
Here we go again drivers complaining while driving a 2 ton vehicle all up in arms on loosing a second or two on their so important trip.

Be jealous due to the bike might be worth more then your car or thinking is this it! -stuck in a vehicle with the wife talking and kids screaming while others are enjoying life is no excuse.

Oh dear the cyclists in front is making me slow down and think that do I really want to risk putting some one in wheelchair for life or ever worst is such a burden!

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
On the ball, maybe, but there's a lot of selfish idiot people on the roads both drivers and cyclists, this won't end well with plenty of YouTube road rage and accident's imho.

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
I'd say it's idiotic.

I unfortunately live in an area where the weekend lycra lot are in abundance.

You speak to pretty much any other road user, and they can't stand the lycra cyclists.

Re: Cyclists new highway code changes
I'd say it's 'pro-cyclist' rather than 'anti-driving'.
